Über zwei Jahre hinweg hat Kevin Wolf die sozialen Gegensätze im Alltag der Menschen in Istanbul fotografiert. Dabei ist ihm ein Lebensgefühl begegnet, das der türkische Schriftsteller Orhan Pamuk einst als „Hüzün“ bezeichnete: Eine kollektive Melancholie, die "so lebensbejahend wie verneinend" sei und sich in den Menschen in Istanbul im Laufe der Geschichte tief eingeprägt habe.
Das Buch HÜZÜN ist eine fotografische Annäherung an jenes „Istanbul-Gefühl“, das sich vom Bosporus über das Goldene Horn bis hinein in die hügeligen Viertel der größten Metropole der Türkei erstreckt.
Over more than two years, Kevin Wolf has visited Istanbul numerous times. While documenting the social contrasts in the daily lives of its residents, he uncovers a deep melancholy that pervades the city. Istanbul-born writer Orhan Pamuk once called this sentiment "hüzün" and described it as a state of mind deeply ingrained in the people of Istanbul over the centuries.
Kevin Wolf’s book HÜZÜN attempts to visually capture this unique 'Istanbul feeling' as it winds from the Bosphorus across the Golden Horn to the hilly neighborhoods of Türkiye’s largest metropolis.
HÜZÜN won the Street Photographers Foundation Award 2023 in the “Best Series” category. It has been exhibited internationally (Brussels, Lisbon, Tehran) and featured in numerous magazines.
